The direction from the owners of the cafe was simply “make it white”. The existing cafe was a mess of materials and textures. The design exercise was primarily that of subtraction. The palate consists of white paint, white furnishings and white light; the only outlier is the polished grey concrete floor. A proper place for an unadorned pour-over (no cream or sugar, please) and a direct, heartfelt conversation.
