By expanding the modest post-war starter home to the side yard and providing ribbon windows and covered decks front and rear, the newly opened communal areas flow together and connect to the redwoods in the rear yard and the view over the front yard. The family room is tucked below and opens to the side yard, sheltered from the street and bathed with daylight. An organically shaped roof deck plays off of the regular geometry below, and provides another outdoor living area.
